Pastoral Coordinators

The norm for the church of San Bernardino remains the appointment of a qualified canonical pastor for each local community. When the norm is not able to be reached, one of the options open to the Bishop is appointment of a qualified Pastoral Coordinator in accord with Canon 517 #2.

The purpose for the Pastoral Coordinator Position is: "to provide overall pastoral and organizational leadership for this faith community, and to help empower the people of this faith community to carry out the mission of the church." The Pastoral Coordinator is understood to be a unifying presence within and a resident ministerial leader for the faith community. The Pastoral Coordinator receives an appointment from the Bishop of San Bernardino for three years with the possibility of a six-year renewal.

The Bishop appoints a Priest Moderator to supervise the Pastoral Coordinator in accord with Canon Law.

In addition, a Priest Minister is appointed for three years with the possibility of a three-year renewal to provide spiritual and pastoral leadership and to nourish the faith-life of the community primarily through the Eucharistic Liturgy and the Sacraments.

The Priest Moderator, Pastoral Coordinator and Priest Minister need to develop the best possible working relationships in order to empower the members of the local faith community in carrying out the mission of the Church. The empowerment of people to carry out the mission of the Church must be the goal of every Parish Community.
