Who is a Parishioner?

If you attend Sacred Heart as your regular parish, make regular contributions or are a Catholic and live within the parish boundaries, you are a parishioner.

Registration

All parishioners are encouraged to register. This enables us to send mailings concerning activities and changes at the parish.

This also enables us to send you a statement of any contributions you have made to the parish. This statement can be used to justify any tax deduction, if you are ever audited by the IRS or state tax boards. But we can only do this if we can trace the source of the contribution, - by using your envelope or a check, with your name and address.

For many reasons, people register and then do not use the envelopes we send. As this costs Sacred Heart, and ultimately you, money (for printing and mailing), if you do not use your envelopes for a period of four months, we will stop sending envelopes and transfer your name to the reserve list of parishioners. You may always ask to receive envelopes again when you wish to start using them. However there are several reasons you need to use them, even if you can't contribute financially for a time.

Catholic Faith Formation

This program is primarily for registered parishioners. While we would prefer every child in the area - Catholic or not, participate in these classes, time and space limitations require that this is offered first to active registered parishioners - then to anyone else on a space available basis. The reality is that the classes are almost always filled before we run out of active parishioners.

Sacred Heart Parish School

Again, the school is open to any child in Kindergarten through 8th grade, regardless of faith. But, there is limited space, - only one class per grade, and very few openings. Tuition reduction, if offered is based on your being active members of the parish. We know this through the use of your envelopes.

Volunteers

Volunteers are required to be active parishioners. It is necessary to know who is working in various capacities, and the only way to track this is via your parish registration. The use of envelopes is how we are able to track who is an active participant, so when you go to mass, please use your envelopes.

Membership in more than one parish

If you are a parishioner in a neighboring parish, but volunteer at Sacred Heart, you must also register at Sacred Heart. This will not cancel your membership at your "home" parish, - it's more like having dual citizenship!
